Amazon ended its own US prep service on 1 January 2026. Every unit must now arrive fully prepped. What this means for you

Frequently asked questions

The things people ask us before they send their first shipment.

General

What exactly is Amazon FBA prep?

Before Amazon will accept your inventory, every unit has to meet its inbound requirements — the right FNSKU barcode, a sealed poly bag with a suffocation warning where required, expiry labelling, protective packaging that survives handling, and compliant shipping cartons. That work is called prep. Since 1 January 2026 Amazon no longer does any of it for US sellers, so it has to be done before your goods leave for the fulfilment centre. We do it in Phnom Penh.

Where are you based?

Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Goods can be delivered to our facility, or we can collect from your factory anywhere in the country.

Do I need to already sell on Amazon?

No. That is the point of our Sell Through Us service — your products go onto Amazon through our established account, and you never have to open one. If you would rather have your own account, we set that up for you too.

Are you affiliated with Amazon?

No. Prep & Pack Asia is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Amazon.com, Inc. We sell on Amazon and prep for Amazon, like thousands of other businesses.

Prep & Pack

What is your minimum order?

There is none. No monthly minimum, no minimum invoice, no subscription. Send us fifty units or fifty thousand — the per-unit rate simply follows your monthly volume.

How long does prep take?

Typically 48 hours from receipt for standard units. Large or complex jobs — heavy kitting, multi-component bundles, full container loads — are scheduled with you in advance so you always have a date.

What happens if goods arrive damaged?

We photograph everything at receipt and send you a receiving report the same day, including any damage or shortfall against your packing list. Nothing damaged gets prepped and shipped to Amazon, because a defective unit costs you far more in returns and account health than it is worth.

Can you handle products that need expiry dates?

Yes. We label expiry dates on both the unit and the master case, and we verify shelf life before shipping — Amazon refuses anything with less than 90 days remaining at receipt, so we check that first rather than let you find out the expensive way.

Do you store inventory?

Not as a service, no. We cross-dock: goods come in, get prepped, and go straight out to Amazon. That is why there are no storage fees. If a shipment needs to wait for a freight booking we hold it free for 14 days, after which a modest pallet rate applies.

Selling through us

How does selling through your account actually work?

We agree a price for your product before anything moves. You send us stock; we prep it, list it on our Amazon account, advertise it and handle every customer. When Amazon disburses to us — every 14 days — we disburse to you: your sales less Amazon’s fees, less our 15% commission, with a full statement of every unit sold.

Why would I not just open my own Amazon account?

You can — Cambodia is on Amazon’s accepted seller registration list, so nothing prevents it. What stops most businesses is what comes after: business verification, the US tax interview, an international payout account, listings written to convert American buyers, PPC advertising, and customer service in English across a twelve-hour time difference. If you have the capacity for that, run your own account and let us set it up properly for you. If you would rather make product, sell through us.

Who owns the inventory?

You do, until it sells. We are selling your goods on your behalf through our account — we do not buy your stock from you at wholesale and mark it up. That is why you receive the sale proceeds less fees and commission, rather than a wholesale price.

What if my product does not sell?

We tell you honestly before we start if we do not think a product will work on Amazon, because listing something that will not move wastes both our time. If stock is not moving we will discuss repricing, repositioning, or returning or disposing of it. We take a share of sales, so a product that sits still earns us nothing either.

Can I see how my products are performing?

Yes. You get a full statement with every payout showing units sold, selling price, Amazon’s fees, our commission and your net. Ask for more detail on advertising or traffic and we will provide it.

Shipping & logistics

Do you handle freight to Amazon?

We create the Amazon shipment plan, label the cartons and hand off to a carrier — yours or ours. We will book air or sea freight on your behalf and quote it separately; freight is charged at cost plus a handling fee, never marked up silently.

Which Amazon marketplaces can you ship to?

Amazon fulfilment centres in the United States, United Kingdom, European Union, Canada, Japan and Australia. The US is where most Cambodian product finds its market, so it is where most of our volume goes.

Do you handle customs and export paperwork?

We prepare commercial invoices, packing lists and certificates of origin, and we work with licensed Cambodian customs brokers for the export declaration. Import duties and customs clearance at the destination remain the responsibility of the importer of record.

Payment & pricing

How and when do I get paid?

On the Sell Through Us service, every 14 days — matched to Amazon’s disbursement cycle. We pay by bank transfer to a Cambodian account, or by international transfer if you prefer. Note that Amazon holds funds for around seven days after delivery to cover returns, so the first payout after a launch takes a little longer to arrive.

How do I pay for prep?

Prep is invoiced per shipment and payable on completion, before goods leave for Amazon. Established accounts can be set up on monthly terms. Sell-through clients have prep deducted from their payout, so there is nothing to pay upfront.

What currency do you work in?

US dollars, which is standard for business in Cambodia. We can invoice and settle in Khmer riel on request.

Are your prices really cheaper than a US prep centre?

Yes, and meaningfully so. The median US prep centre charges $1.30 per unit; our mid tier is $0.65. On top of that, most US centres bill receiving, storage and shipment-plan creation separately, which we do not. The larger saving, though, is structural: prepping at the source removes an entire handling leg from your supply chain.
